The summer season is an exciting time for many young adults as they enter the workforce following high school or college graduation. Unfortunately, not all job postings found online are legitimate and many fraudulent employers specifically target young adults with entry-level professional positions that offer a high salary and flexible working hours.

Everyone is conditioned to worry. Our conditioning begins as soon as we learn to speak. Since we see everyone around us worrying, we emulate their behavior. There are no limits to what you worry about. You worry about the past. You worry about the present. You worry about the future.

The North Forney High School cafeteria, is where Forney ISD will host a summer feeding program providing breakfast and lunch for any child 18 years and younger. Food must be eaten onsite, but no identification is required.

It is nearly summer. School is out. The temps are up, as are the rain totals, it seems. They say it will be a banner season for things like flies, chiggers, and mosquitos. I don’t need to hear news anchors with their warnings about such things. We are already deep in the bowels of the insect plagues of 2024. The grandchildren are equal parts already bored from the absence of a school day routine and loathing the return to structure in the fall. My granddaughter’s days are spent commuting back and forth to soccer camp in Dallas. That leaves my grandson open to the phenomenon we like to call “Didi Days,” where I chauffeur him to his activities and bring him back home to spend afternoons with me. It’s something we’ve never done before, this little boy and me. We’re learning so much about each other. I forgot how hard it was to be the last child born. Why, there’s never been an Ezra when there wasn’t already a big sister. I find us to be a lot alike, too. He’s a worldclass worrier.

Many people anxiously await the first day of summer and look forward to activities that are tailor-made for warm weather. The first day of summer is known as the summer solstice, which marks the official start of astronomical summer. The solstice features more hours of daylight than any day of the year, according to Space.com. The next summer solstice in the Northern Hemisphere occurs on June 20, 2024 (the Southern Hemisphere celebrates the solstice on December 21, 2024).

June 14 is Flag Day, and it’s a good time to be thinking about our national symbols. The Rotary Club has placed flying American flags all over Forney and, just as she did for decades, Lady Liberty is standing beneath our American, Texas, and Forney flags, welcoming our tired commuters in from Dallas.
