Mr. Charlie White, one of Forney’s veterans, is looking forward to celebrating his 98th birthday this month. As he looks back over the preceding almostcentury, he has quite a few stories to recount but perhaps the most interesting of stories is that of his early 20s. Barely an adult at the time, Mr. White became a soldier for the United States Army to fight in World War II.

Terry Daniels was born four years before Don Themer, but I knew of him because he played sports at Southern Methodist University in the 1960s, and my Dad made me into a fan of theirs, since they were the closest “big” university around and because Southland Athletic sold uniforms to them. Appropriately, my oldest son, Will, earned his law degree there in the mid-2000s.

The Autumnal Equinox arrived on Tuesday, September 22, 2020 at 8:31 a.m. CDT, so Fall has officially arrived! Forney ISD can celebrate that school is fully back in session whether it be in person or virtual. Every year our teachers work over the summer to prepare for the first school bell’s ring, announcing that now is the time to learn new things. Even though this school year is different, the effort by the wonderful teachers remains the same.
