Roberta Mae Carroll turned 104 years old on March 2, 2021. On March 6th family and friends participated in a “Drive By” Birthday Party past her downtown Forney home. Everyone who participated decorated their cars with posters, balloons and ribbons in celebration of her milestone birthday. Roberta enjoyed watching everyone from the comfort of her driveway as well wishers honked, waved and expressed their love for her. Participants included her daughters, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, greatgreat grandchildren, nieces, nephews and many other family and friends from all over the Forney area and North Texas.

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Congressman Lance Gooden (R-TX) and two dozen House Republicans sent a letter to President Biden urging that he recognize the immigration crisis and declare a national emergency at our southern border. This follows reports that U.S. Customs and Border Patrol expect 117,000 unaccompanied children to cross our border this year and that over 3,000 migrants are crossing each day.
The North Texas Municipal Water District (NTMWD) will temporarily change the disinfectant in its water treatment process from March 1 through March 29, 2021. The annual, routine change is necessary to maintain the regional system and year-round water quality.
STAR Transit is providing free rides for persons with confirmed appointment to get the COVID 19 vaccine shots. The curb-to-curb service extends outside of the agency’s service area. Rides are available Monday – Friday, 6:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. For this purpose, STAR Transit is temporarily adding Saturday service from 7:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. Reservations should be made at least one service day in advance and are based on vehicle availability.
Due to the February 12, 2021 disaster declaration by the governor, certain properties within Kaufman County may qualify for a temporary exemption under section 11.35 of the Texas Property Tax Code.
Last week’s column apparently brought back some memories and also raised a few questions, so I will try to answer some remaining queries.
1. Let the faucets “run,” not just drip, when temperatures are really extreme! The water has to MOVE.
Congratulations to Rogan Ward, a student at Crosby Elementary School for being named the Elementary Student of the Month for March. The Forney ISD Board of Trustees recognized Mr. Ward at the March monthly board meeting on Monday, March 1, 2021.
The Forney ISD Marketing and Communications Department recently won several awards from the Texas School Public Relations Association, (TSPRA). The department won two silver star awards for newsletters, a silver star for writing and a gold star award the ‘120 Years Anniversary Video’. The department was also a Platinum Finalist and earned a Certificate of Merit for their 2019 Bond Campaign. The Forney Board of Trustees recognized the department for their success at the March regular board meeting on Monday, March 1, 2021. Members of the department at the meeting to receive the award were Ty Jones, Dana Curry, Kristin Zastoupil and Larry Coker.
Several Forney ISD student musicians were recently named all state musicians. The following students were named All-State Musicians.
