By the time you read this, I will have flipped the script of my 50s and plummeted down the rabbit hole known as 54. My time in the land of quinquagenarians has been exciting and enlightening. In other words, I adore my 50s. My 20s were HARD. I was a young mom. It was hectic - still trying to figure out who I was in this big old world. My 30s were even harder! I cooked up a mess of baseball games and kid school functions and seasoned it with a corporate job and a blended family. My 40s were nightmarish. I lost a child. I became ill. Then the 50s came along and swept me off my feet. I gained an addiction to simplicity. I lost the desire to prove so much to so many. Yet, while the mind has been greatly eased, the body has bolted like a lone deer at a game feeder on opening day. 50s, what are you doing to my body? My upper spine is crooked. Some odd little cysts have claimed squatter’s rights in my lower lumbar. My knees are bad. My eyes are worsening by the minute. But, none of this prepared me for the saga of my teeth. Because, nothing – and, I mean nothing – freaks me out worse than going to the dentist.

“We want to congratulate our Forney Family moving into new positions for next year, and welcome some new leaders to our district,” said Forney ISD Superintendent Dr. Justin Terry. “They each have a heart for doing what’s best for our students, and we are excited they are a part of our Forney Family.”

Mesquite has again earned the highest rating possible for fire protection of a community as determined by the Insurance Services Office (ISO). The Texas Department of Insurance, through the State Fire Marshal’s Office, notified the Mesquite Fire Department that the city had a split ISO rating of Class 01/1X. The range is 1 (superior) to 10. Mesquite has had the highest ISO rating since 2006.

Sandrine Carolle Kamdoum of Forney, Texas, was recently initiated into The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi, the nation’s oldest and most selective all-discipline collegiate honor society. Kamdoum was initiated at University of North Alabama.

Thirteen years. The length of time the Class of 2021--approximately 850 graduates from both high schools-- has been in school before graduating this week. While this seems short to parents and other adults, for these 17 and 18 year olds it is truly their lifetime. These graduates from Forney and North Forney have packed in volumes of learning and experiences in those short 13 years. From learning in the classrooms to participating in extracurricular activities, these young men and women have represented their families and school district very well. Forney Education Foundation has been a part of that in helping the teachers in Forney ISD by funding teacher-requested grants, rewarding Teacher of the Year educators, and serving lunches to the campuses that have the largest contributions during their employee drives.

Created in 1968 by the Texas Legislature with help from the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board, a CON- SORTION was begun to leverage limited teaching resources across three universities—Texas Woman’s University (TWU), the University of North Texas (UNT), and Texas A&M University-Commerce (TAMU-C).
